St Mirren release Shaun Rooney after assault charge
Shaun Rooney has left St Mirren by “mutual consent”, it has been confirmed by the club.
The 28-year-old had been suspended following an assault charge relating to an incident in a Glasgow takeaway last month.
The full-back made 10 appearances for St Mirren after joining in the summer under freedom of contract.
A brief statement from the Buddies said: “St Mirren Football Club can confirm that Shaun Rooney has left the club by mutual consent.
“The club will make no further comment.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said at the time, around three weeks ago: “A 28-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with an assault on an 18-year-old woman and a breach of the peace against an 18-year-old man in takeaway premises on Queen Street, Glasgow, in the early hours of Thursday, 19 September, 2024.
