St Mirren 2-1 Aberdeen

St Mirren went into this game hoping that they would be the first team to defeat Aberdeen in the league this season.

The Buddies got of to a good start with some early pressure, but it wasn’t until the 19th minute when Saint’s keeper Ellery Balcombe hit a long ball upfield and Toyosi Olusanya burst his way between two Aberdeen defenders to win the ball race in the penalty box and hit the ball between the Aberdeen keepers legs to put Saint’s 1 -0 in front.

The game was end to end with both teams giving as good as they got, when in the 28th minute Saint’s Gogic was given a straight red card but thankfully VAR intervened and the red card was downgraded to a yellow. Aberdeen changed the forward line at half time bringing on Duk and Nisbet and within 5 minutes of the restart it was 1 – 1 when ex Saints player Jamie McGrath fired low into the Saints net.

The game continued with both sides creating chances but it wasn’t until the 83th minute that Richard Taylor scored the winning goal when his towering header at the back post beat Mitov in the Aberdeen goal and put St Mirren 2 – 1 in front.

In the dying minutes, Aberdeen’s Duk hit the post with a back healer, but it was St Mirren who held on to win the game inflicting Aberdeen’s first league defeat of the season, and kept St Mirren in the top six, Final score St Mirren 2 – 1 Aberdeen.
