Birkmyre Wins Bishopton 7s
Birkmyre Rugby Club picked up its 3rd Trophy of the season with a victory in the Bishopton 7s Tournament on Saturday 22nd June, to add to their League Title and win at the Helensburgh 7s in May.
Their opening match was against Greenock A which resulted in a solid 27 points to 5 victory. The second fixture was a far closer affair against a West 2 Select side consisting of players from various teams across the league. It was a high-scoring match which saw Birkmyre come out on top, 26-24.
The final group match was against Greenock B. This was another tough fought encounter however the Kilmacolm side was able to secure the victory 22-12.
This set up an exciting final against the hosts Bishopton. Both sides were evenly matched and opportunities were in scarce supply. Birkmyre took the lead with a try from Finlay Rayner in the corner with an assist from Cammy Marr.
They then extended their lead when Callum Moglia broke from halfway and weaved his way across the line. This score being converted by David Cruickshank. Bishopton pulled a score back before the half making it 12-5 at the break.
The second half was very closely contested. With 3 minutes left, Bishopton scored their second try taking the score to 12-10, having missed the conversion. The last few minutes were all Bishopton however the Birkmyre defence held out well to keep the score the same and to lift the
