St Mirren release Shaun Rooney after assault charge

Shaun Rooney has left St Mirren by “mutual consent”, it has been confirmed by the club.

The 28-year-old had been suspended following an assault charge relating to an incident in a Glasgow takeaway last month.

The full-back made 10 appearances for St Mirren after joining in the summer under freedom of contract.

A brief statement from the Buddies said: “St Mirren Football Club can confirm that Shaun Rooney has left the club by mutual consent.

“The club will make no further comment.”

Police Scotland spokesperson said at the time, around three weeks ago: “A 28-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with an assault on an 18-year-old woman and a breach of the peace against an 18-year-old man in takeaway premises on Queen Street, Glasgow, in the early hours of Thursday, 19 September, 2024.
